Ohio Ethics Commission probing Greene County Commission; Dayton Coalition
Beavercreek, Ohio, Monday, August 25, 2008: Today John Mitchel announced that the Ohio Ethics Commission (OEC) has initiated an investigation into his allegations that Greene County Commissioners and Dayton Development Coalition (DDC) officers conspired to steer un-bid contracts toward Republican campaign contributors. Named as co-conspirators in Mitchel’s “citizen’s indictment” are officers and associates with the Greentree Group, a Beavercreek government support contractor, and Paul Magliochetti and Associates (The PMA Group), a Washington lobbying firm. Mitchel alleges that in the BRAC Initiative Agreement between Greene County and the Coalition covering October, 2003 through September, 2006, Greene County Commissioners violated state and federal laws that prohibit misappropriation of funds, bid-rigging and money laundering tax dollars into political campaigns. Mitchel also alleges an attempted cover-up by the Greene County Prosecutor who serves as Secretary for the Greene County Republican Central Committee.
Mitchel commented, “Although the Ohio Ethics Commission should have been all over this last year when I first brought these allegations forward, I applaud them for taking the lead now. In my opinion, this is just the tip of the iceberg. When OEC Director David Freel and his investigative staff get into the details of the BRAC Initiative Agreement, I’m confident the money trail will lead them from Greene County through Dayton and Columbus, and on to Washington D.C. Once these allegations see the bright sunshine, I wouldn’t be surprised if other state law enforcement agencies and federal investigators get involved as well. When that happens, Congressman Hobson, State Senator Steve Austria and Mrs. Austria will finally be held accountable, one way or another, for their part in the latest Ohio campaign finance scandal.”
