Steve Austria’s Republican credentials on shaky ground

Monday, April 4th, 2010, Beavercreek, Ohio: The Washington Post’s U.S. Congress Votes Database reveals that Steve Austria, first term Congressman from Ohio’s 7th Congressional District is not the conservative he claims to be. This link identifies Mr. Austria as voting with the Democrats on 35 out of 42 votes since January 14th, 2009. Austria is challenged in the May 4th Republican Primary by John Mitchel, former Air Force officer who currently works as a systems analyst at Wright Patterson AFB.

In response to the Washington Post’s evaluation of Congressman Austria’s voting record, Mitchel responded, “It’s clear that the Steve Austria we see is not the Steve Austria we get. You would think a Republican from a conservative stronghold like the 7th District could do much better than voting with the Democrats more than 83 % of the time. It should come as no surprise that approval ratings for congress are at all time lows.”
